How Good is Collision Repair?

For those of us who take pride in our vehicles, damage from small collisions is embarrassing and frustrating.

After years of doing small collision repair at Island Color, we have noticed recurring concerns that drivers have. Customers are always curious about whether or not the repairs done to their vehicle will fully restore it to its pre-accident condition.

Each accident is different, so each car that comes into our shop requires different attention from us. Severe accidents make it difficult for even the most experienced technicians using the best tools and techniques available to fully restore a car. That being said, in most cases, the repairs will be completely unnoticeable, meaning no one will even know your car had been in an accident in the first place.

Here’s what we do to make sure you get a flawless repair.

Dents

The first step with a dented area is pulling out the caved-in area with our dent removal machines. Once the original form is generally restored, we carefully smooth out the area to transform it from an ugly paper-bag like finish to the smooth body panel you want.

Scratches and Chips

Sometimes the smallest repairs are the most difficult to make perfect. Scratches will be sanded down until completely smooth and flush with the surrounding area. If the scratch is too deep to sand right away, we will apply a filler to the damaged area first.

Once the area is smooth and flush, we apply paint and two coats of clear coat so that the damaged area is fully protected and visually perfect. Here is an example of our scratch repairs in action.

Precision Colour Matching

Obviously, using the right colour is of utmost importance. It doesn’t matter how delicately we smooth the damaged area if the paint doesn’t perfectly match up to what surrounds it. At Island Color, we have access to the paint codes for every vehicle on the road today. We can guarantee that the repainted section of your car will be imperceptible.
