At Island Color we have a protection package that gives your vehicle unrivalled protection from the elements both inside and out.
Our complete protection package includes all of our protection services for one discounted price. You receive paint protection to shield your paint from UV and acid rain, rust proofing to keep slow down aging, and leather and fabric protection to keep your interior looking newer longer.
Let’s take a look at how we perform each service, we will take you through it step by step below.
What's Involved: Paint Protection
At Island Color we offer paint protection in the form of a teflon based wax that is buffed into the vehicle’s paint like a regular wax, but offers long term protection from UV rays and industrial fallout. Teflon, the same non-stick coating you find on the frying pans in your kitchen, is unreceptive to grease and grime, impenetrable by UV rays, protects against bird droppings, acid rain, salt and bug reside, and lasts up to five years on the surface of your vehicle before needing reapplication.
We begin by washing and drying the car by hand to remove any dirt and grime in the clear coat and to prep the surface for the teflon coating. Once the car is squeaky clean, we apply a coat of teflon wax to the entire exterior of the vehicle and buff the product in using orbital buffers. After the product dries we buff the car to a showroom shine and return it to another happy customer.
This teflon treatment does not protect from rock chips, but it does protect against fading and UV damage. It is also receptive to waxing and polishing, so you can keep up with your regular exterior maintenance without needing to have it reapplied.
What's Involved: Rust Proofing
To bake up a delicious batch of rust, you only three ingredients: Iron, water, and oxygen. Since we drive out in the elements all day in vehicles made of steel, we are creating the perfect environment for rust to form, grown, and eventually devour everything in its path.
Once you know how rust forms the solution is simple. The rust proofer we use is a type of extremely thick wax that can be strayed onto surfaces or into tight spaces using a hose. By laying a thick durable wax coating inside the doors, the hood, and between the pinch welds of the frame we remove all three of the ingredients needed for rust to form. Oxygen can’t get to the iron ore in the steel and water and condensation are repelled away on contact.
We do not spray rust proofing on the underside of the vehicle. Since it is a waxy finish it makes an awful mess, dirt sticks to it, and your mechanic will be cursing your name if they need to get in there to repair something. Since the exposed areas of the vehicle are able to dry, unlike the inside of the panels, it is much less of a risk for rust.
What's Involved: Leather & Fabric
The procedure for protecting your interior varies slightly depending on whether your vehicle is outfitted with leather or fabric seats. Either way it involves a thorough clean before protecting so you get the benefit of an interior clean along with your future protection.
Leather: If your vehicle has leather seats, we start by wiping down all of the leather surfaces with cleaner, making sure to get all exposed areas. We will vacuum in the cracks as necessary, since any bits of dirt or grime will interfere with the leather protectant that follows.
After the leather is clean, we apply a waxy paste to the leather and massage it in, leaving it to cure and create a protective barrier that will repel body oils, spill, and stains from seeping into your leather upholstery.
Fabric: For vehicles with fabric seats we begin with a vacuum and shampoo to get all of the dirt and debris out from the fabric before we begin the protection process. If a vehicle is brand new it may not need this step, but for all used cars it is essential.
After the fabric has been cleaned and completely dried, we apply a fabric protection spray and leave it to dry so it create a protective barrier on the fibres of the fabric. Upholstery that has been sprayed will enjoy increased protection against spills and stains, keeping your interior looking newer longer.
Complete Protection FAQ
Are there ever extra charges?
No sir. $500 gets you the full package, car or truck, no matter what.
How long does it take?
This is something we get done in one day. Generally you will drop off your car in the morning and get it back at the end of the day, but if it is raining heavily we might recommend leaving it overnight to let the undercoating fully dry. We will let you know based on the weather when you drop it off.
