Ceramic Coatings for Summer

Ceramic coatings can be your secret weapon to achieve automotive perfection.

Keeping your vehicle’s exterior in pristine condition is a never ending battle. Each season presents a new set of challenges, and summer is no exception. Increased exposure to UV radiation, sand, salt water, pollen, and bird droppings threaten the health of your vehicle’s exterior. To prevent damage from chemical agents, solar radiation, and minor scratches and scuffs, many auto enthusiasts are choosing to get ceramic coatings for their vehicles.

Ceramic coatings are the perfect solution for keeping your car in showroom condition all summer – and will keep performing for years to come. Here’s a brief overview of what ceramic coatings are, and how they will improve your vehicle.

What is a Ceramic Coating?

A ceramic coating is a liquid polymer composed of nano ceramic particles suspend in a clear resin. The coatings form a molecular bond with your vehicle’s clear coat, forming a hard, resilient, protective coating. Read more about ceramic coatings at Island Detail right here.

Ceramic coatings can’t be washed off, and greatly outlast traditional protective coatings, such as wax. All ceramic coatings have a hydrophobic finish and provide deep gloss and shine, but there are many different formula available that are optimized to emphasize different characteristics and that come in at different price points.

Why are Ceramic Coatings Worthwhile?

There are several main reasons why auto enthusiasts choose ceramic coatings. We think that the reasons generally fall into three categories: protection, aesthetics, and ease of maintenance.

Protection: Ceramic coatings are the only option to protect your vehicle from UV damage, chemical damage, and minor scuffs and scratches. In the summer, you need to keep your paint safe from acidic bird droppings and tree sap, strong sunlight, and abrasive sand. Ceramic coatings are the only option that protect from all these sources of harm.

Aesthetics: Ceramic coatings give your vehicle’s finish the ultimate in high gloss. No other coating or treatment provides the same deep shine that is created by ceramic coatings, and no other treatment lasts as long either. As ceramic coatings are so long-lasting, it is important that your paint be in perfect condition before “locking everything in” with a ceramic coating.

Ease of Maintenance: The hydrophobic properties of ceramic coatings mean that water can’t stick the way it does on an untreated surface. When water can’t stick, neither can dirt, mud, or grime. After a ceramic coating, you will still need to wash your car, but you won’t believe how easy it will be and how beautiful the results are.

How Do You Maintain Ceramic Coatings?

Maintaining a ceramic coating is incredibly easy. After installation, you will probably be told to avoid washing the vehicle for a few days (your car can get wet, just don’t use any soap). Once the coating is fully cured, hand wash only – no automatic car washes (not that you should have been using those anyway). Simply rinse your vehicle when it gets dirty, use soap if needed, and pat dry with a microfibre towel.
