The Island's Best Bumper Repair

Here is an in-depth look into our bumper repair process.

In the old days, bumper repair was typically quite straight forward. Bumpers were usually add-ons that could just be unbolted from the body of the car, fixed, and then bolted back on. Modern day cars are integrated into the vehicle’s body and are much more intricate than they used to be. That means that modern bumper repair is more demanding than it used to be.

At Island Color, we treat every vehicle that comes into our shop as a unique case because we know that no two cars are exactly the same. Here is a brief overview of the general process our mechanics will apply to conduct a bumper repair.

Step 1: Disconnecting Components and Removing Bumper

Contained within modern bumpers can be a myriad of components, including proximity sensors, rear-view cameras, and wiring. So the first step to any repair is disconnecting all these components so that the bumper can be removed safely. Once the bumper is removed, the repairs can begin.

It’s important that the bumper is disconnected by trained hands who know how to avoid damaging any of the internal components. The process or removing the bumper can take up to several hours to complete.

Step 2: Repairing the Damage

Once everything has been successfully disconnected, the actual repairs can take place. At Island Color, we specialize in fixing chipped, scratched, gouged, and dented bumpers.

Our technicians go from sand down all the scratches and imperfections and then use a filler to smooth out the area and make it flush with the rest of the bumper. Once the bumper is smoothed, we apply primer, custom paint, and two coats of clear coat. Colour matching is a mix of art and science, and no one has more experience than our team; you will be blown away when you see the results.

Step 3: Reinstalling the Repaired Bumper

The final step in the repair is essentially reversing all the work of Step 1. Our technicians will reattach all the components and make sure everything is in good working order and has been installed perfectly.

At Island Color, bumper repair is one of our specialties. We have over 2 decades of experience dealing with bumpers that are rusted, scratched, crushed, dented, chipped, and more. The most amazing part is that we can usually take care of any job for less than the cost of your insurance deductible; so not only do you see savings upfront, but bringing your vehicle to us will keep your insurance costs from spiking up.
