Same Day Door Sill Restoration?

Door sills and jambs are a commonly overlooked part of vehicle maintenance, and often require restoration. The good news is that we’re here to help.

Consider that door sills are probably the most abused component of your vehicle. Every day, probably several times a day, you grind dirt and grit into them as you get in and out of your vehicle. They are typically overlooked in most people’s washing routines because they aren’t accessible with the door closed during a normal external clean.

It doesn’t take long for the constant traffic to make door sills unsightly and even embarrassing. The good news is that repairing door sills isn’t a huge job. At Island Color, we’ve been repairing door sills for over 2 decades, and have the process down to a science – here is a link to our service page. In fact, we can bring your door sills back to showroom condition AND get your vehicle back to you on the very same day. All you have to do is give us a call.

Here is a step-by-step on how we accomplish such quick and precise repairs:

  • Step one is to bring the surface of the door sill to an even level. This is done by sanding. The technician is meticulous in ensuring that each scratched or gouged area is sanded down and becomes perfectly flush with the surrounding area. After sanding, we’ll use a fuller to smooth the area and bring everything level.
  • Once the filler dries, we sand AGAIN to make sure the area is perfect. Any bumps or inconsistencies will stand out in the finished product, so this step is crucial. A layer of primer is applied to give the paint a surface onto which it may bind.
  • While the primer dries, we’ll pull up the manufacturer’s paint codes for your vehicle so we can mix a batch of custom paint. Our goal with restorations isn’t to make it look like a great repair, but to make it look original. We can match any paint colour or finish out there, so no matter how exotic your paint job, we’ve got you covered.
  • Once the sill has been sanded, filled, sanded, primed, and painted, we can apply two layers of clear coat. We use two layers for added durability, as door sills see so much abuse, and also for a deeper gloss and shine. Touching up a scratch with a paint pen just doesn’t cut it.

Same Day Repair

Once everything is dry, the vehicle is ready for the open road. The quality of these restorations never ceases to amaze us, and we’ve been at it for over 20 years. Not only are our customers floored by how great it looks, but it’s a nice feeling to get the repair done for less than an insurance deductible.
