Island Color Headlight Restoration
As the weather starts to get worse through the rainy and (sometimes) snowy season here in Victoria, it is a good idea to do a bit of preventative maintenance to make sure we all stay safe on the roads and highways. Over time, the external UV coating on the headlight lenses of your vehicle will become opaque or yellow. You will lose up to 70% of the light output of your headlights, making it harder to see while driving at night, and harder for oncoming motorists to see you as well.
We have a simple procedure for restoring your headlight lenses to their factory condition for a fraction of the price of new headlights. We will improve your night vision, increase safety, and restore the appearance of your vehicle all in one quick service. Here is how we do it.
Our goal with headlight restoration is to remove the oxidized (yellowing) portion of the headlight lens. We start with wet sanding using three different grits of wet sandpaper, getting finer and finer until there is no oxidation left and the lens is completely clean.
The second step is polishing, which is also a three step process. Each stage of polishing uses different grades of polish applied with electric polishers. Just like the sandpaper, the polishing compounds get finer and finer until every small scratch has been removed. The final product is astonishing actually, you can’t tell any servicing has been done and the headlights look exactly like they did on the showroom floor.
Headlight Restoration FAQ
Are there ever extra charges?
Very rarely are there extra charges. Some high end luxury cars have two extra headlights on the side of the vehicle so they require some extra work, but outside of that extreme example the price stays the same, no matter how badly oxidized the headlights are.
How long does it take?
This process takes about two hours to perform, so it is a same day service.
