Island Color Undercoating
To have your car or truck undercoated means having a layer of protection sprayed onto the undercarriage of your vehicle, including the floor boards, wheel wells, and frame. Since the underside of your vehicle is not washed during regular maintenance, and is not even rinsed by regular rain water, it is important to protect the exposed parts from rust and corrosion.
Along with its protective qualities, undercoating has other benefits as well. In fact, most people who request undercoating are looking for reduced cabin noise while driving. The thickness of the undercoat helps to insulate the cabin and reduce unwanted noise. You get a safe protected car that is more quiet and pleasure to drive, all at the same time.
Below we are going to explain in detail how we apply an undercoat to your vehicle, what types of materials we use, how long they last, and why it is good idea to get an undercoating, even if you live outside of a snowy and icy climate.
Trucks are $275-$375 depending on size.
Applying an undercoating to a vehicle is a very straight forward procedure. It is something we can have finished in one day when the weather is dry, or done over night if the vehicle needs to be stored indoors to help it cure in rainy weather.
First we completely clean the undercarriage of the vehicle, making sure any oil, grease, or gasoline is removed to make sure the undercoating sticks evenly. Once everything is clean and dry we move onto spraying.
The undercoating that we use is a very thick, rubberized and texturized compound that adheres to the frame of the vehicle like paint but covers like a thick rubber coating. Some people try to perform undercoatings at home using over the counter spray cans, and it is definitely possible, but getting the room underneath your vehicle safely at home can be difficult, an producing an even coating can be even tougher. We use professional grade applicators and experienced technicians to apply a very thick, even undercoat that will last for the life of your vehicle without needing replacement under average use.
We get quite a few questions about what to expect from an undercoat service and who the best candidates are. Check out our FAQs to get the inside scoop.
