The Ceramic Coating Process

When you get a ceramic coating from Island Detail, you receive a lot more than a bottle of resin.

Summer is quickly approaching, and it looks like we may after all get to spend some time outdoors. At Island Detail, we care about you and your vehicle, and want to help make sure that every minute spent with your car is a good one.

These days, people are spending more time thinking about their vehicles – especially about how to maintain them. As a result of this, we have noticed a huge increase in the popularity of ceramic coatings. This makes sense, because ceramic coatings represent the best option for preserving the condition of your vehicle’s exterior.

If you’ve perused our blog before, you’ve probably learned lots about what a ceramic coating is and the incredible benefits they provide. Below, you will find a more in-depth breakdown of the actual ceramic coating process, so you can learn more about where your money goes. Ceramic coatings are sizeable investments, so we think you should learn as much as you can about them before taking the plunge.

Time

Most of the work that goes into applying a ceramic coating actually happens before we open a bottle. There is an incredible amount of work required to properly prepare a vehicle for a coating.

The average application will take a few days, during which our technicians spend between 12 and 24 hours (sometimes more!) painstakingly working on your car. The amount of time required largely depends on the amount of paint correction required. The good news is that for an experienced paint shop like Island Color, it’s usually easy to tell how much paint correction work will be required, and we can discuss this with you before getting started.

Work

At the very least, the preparation involves a full wash, dry, decontamination, polish, and pre-coating wipe down. Almost every car we’ve encountered needs paint correction of some kind, so this depends on the condition of your paint. Aesthetically, coatings enhance what’s going on underneath, so that’s why it’s so important to make sure that it is perfect.

Only once the vehicle is fully prepared can we apply the coating. The application process requires a gentle touch; a single 30ml bottle is all that’s required to completely coat most vehicles. Experience makes a huge difference here, so it’s good that we have over 2 decades of it.
