Island Detail Cut Polish

After an exterior detail, hand wash, or wax, the only concern you could have is how long the finish will look perfect. This is where the cut polish comes in. An abrasive “cutting” polish can be used on your automotive paint work to cut through any oxidized paint and to polish out any scratches in the paintwork. You see, as your paint oxidizes it becomes much more dull than when it was new, and the cutting compound is used to expose the original fresh surface for you to enjoy again.

Let’s take a look at how we do it, it is a great addition to your next detail service.

Work wonders on faded paint without all the elbow grease. Add a cut polish to any exterior detail for one low price to bring your car back to its showroom shine.

What's Involved

The cut polish portion of your exterior detail happens at the end of the cleaning portion but before the final wax is applied. After your vehicle is hand washed and dried to remove any leftover dirt, dust, and grime, your detailer preps their handheld tools with a cutting compound to smooth out your paint’s surface.

Cutting compound consists of an abrasive suspended in a paste. Like most abrasives, it comes in various grit sizes dependent upon how much matter is to be removed. It is used on automotive paintwork to cut through (abrade) oxidised paint or to polish out scratches in the paintwork. The oxidised paint is duller than fresh paint and the cutting compound is used to expose this fresher surface.

Waxing to protect the newly exposed surface is an important part of this maintenance, so a layer of wax is applied after the cut polish to complete the exterior detail. Cutting is not something that should necessarily be done often as it will eventually strip all the paint from the surface, which both is less appealing and offers less chemical resistance. Do it once a year, though, and you will be blown away by how your vehicle’s paint holds up over time.

Cut Polish FAQ

Are there ever extra charges?

You are able to add a cut polish to any exterior detail for the above price. It may be higher if you vehicle is VERY large or if it needs other maintenance before a cut polish can be applied.

How long does it take?

The cut polish is an additional service added onto any exterior detail and adds just a bit of extra time, depending on how much surface abrasion there is. Exterior details usually take half a day, and even when you add a cut polish we can guarantee your vehicle back to you the same day if you bring it in in the morning.
